Who We Are
Introducing your future Otago Gold Bed and Breakfast hosts, Sue and Don Williams. The attached photos show us doing what we love – touring on our ST1300 motorbike. We stopped at Arapuni for lunch in spring 2016. We’ve decided to change our lifestyle from pressure cooker city life in Hamilton to a unique sustainable Bed and Breakfast accommodation in Millers Flat, Central Otago.
We have four sons, one born in the North Island and three born in the South Island. We have fond memories raising our boys in the places we lived. The south is home to us, which is why we are returning there to work.
Our interests are meeting people from around the world, gardening, baking, cooking, free range chickens, music, fishing, motorbike riding and the environment. We are self-taught home cooks and have catered for large numbers while caring for our family. We look forward to showing you our culinary skills.
We have travelled around New Zealand and to Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hawaii, mainland USA, UK and Ireland. We love meeting people and look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to our B&B.
Together we have two lifetimes of experience raising our family, caring our grandchildren and recently homestay hosting international Asian students. You will benefit from our collective life experiences and will enjoy what we have to offer you. Our Sustainable Philosophy and what we bring to Central Otago B&B Accommodation
The philosophy for our B&B is Low Carbon Footprint so we have Minimal Impact on the Environment. We will encompass sustainable low carbon design solutions. The design focus for our new home and B&B will be your comfort and amenity convenience whilst maintaining a low carbon foot print and minimising our effect on the Millers Flat environment. Some of the solutions we will incorporate into our new home and B&B will include recovering heat from the sun for heating and hot water, use of natural materials for building and high thermal efficiency solid fuel heater.
We will strive to make your stay at our Millers Flat new home and B&B, a unique, enjoyable & memorable experience.
Progress on B&B Design and Construction
Development of our new home and B&B is in the early stages as shown below:
- Our land at Millers Flat has been cleared and is ready to build our new home and B&B
- Our architect is working on design concepts based on our sustainable philosophy and design brief. Once we have decided on a floor plan and site layout that fits our lifestyle, we will prepare working drawings followed by submitting resource/building consents with Council, tendering and construction.
